DHT is produced from the hormone testosterone. DHT, once formed, binds to hair follicles, cutting off their blood supply, and preventing hair growth. The hair starts to thin and weaken and eventually falls out. Thus, the higher levels of DHT you have in the body, the more your hair follicles shrink and become inactive, causing male pattern baldness.
